Artist Statement From the “I Wish I Have; Part lll” I embarked on my new media painting project. Building upon my previous new media art projects which introduces new media techniques into two-dimensional images, the new painting project begins with images originated by others in cyberspace and which I then give tactile reality in the physical world by means of recreating them using traditional realism painting techniques and processes. For example, I use images posted on face book by my friends, or, images gleaned from websites. I take the images out of their cyber reality and bring them into physical existence. Some images in cyberspace are beautiful in themselves; but their existence if fleeting. As recreated physical artworks they take on new life. They become handcrafted expressions of beauty that have a greater chance for enduring in our changing world. By giving digital images a physical reality, I also hope to expand new media art into the world of objects – bridging the gap between new media and traditional art forms.
