LYNN BASA
Lynn Basa’s work zigzags across the boundaries of painting and object, accessibility and secrecy, doubt and self-assurance. Her many years toiling in the hinterlands of clay and fiber instilled in her a reflexive degree of sophisticated craftsmanship that shows up in her paintings - a trait that she is constantly trying to escape by techniques that rely more on happenstance and happy accidents than conscious mark-making. Still, there’s no place to hide. No matter how beautiful or awkward, each piece is psychologically revealing of her attitude towards herself and others.
Lynn has taught in the Sculpture Department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, is the author of The Artist’s Guide to Public Art: How to Find and Win Commissions, and has completed numerous Chicago public art commissions.
